When I was a kid in the late 1980s, I remember kids talking about these great books about the Magic School Bus and Ms. Frizzle. My 10-year-old brain didn't understand the concept of a bus going into these different places. I recall everyone being super excited about the tv show in the late 1990s, but teenage me didn't care. Fast forward to 2017, and the mother in me saw the Netflix show and loved it! As any good mother does, I introduced the show to my then 6-year-old daughter, and she, too, loved the show. Naturally, we had to get the books, and we continued to get the books because my now 11-year-old daughter is still into the Magic School Bus and Ms. Frizzle.

Published in April 2021 by Scholastic Press, "The Magic School Bus Explores Human Evolution" by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen is one that we had to add to our home library. The book does an excellent, relatable and fun job of explaining human Evolution in less than 60 pages. As with all Magic School Bus books, Ms. Frizzle takes the children on a field trip, thanks to Arnold's family tree. The book covers ancestors, descendants, the beginning of time, how we have evolved, the importance of fossils, and what they can tell us about Evolution; it covers most topics and definitions of human Evolution. As with all Magic School Bus books, the children experience Evolution and make funny jokes that help remember the topic.

What is so great about this book?

The story, explanation, and illustrations are all so well done, and in my mind, they exceed the expectations from the television series. I hope that Netflix does consider doing a special one-hour episode on this book alone!
