As a parent who is always looking for an engaging book, I was pleasantly surprised when my daughter found this gem of a book. I think that the eyes on the animals caught her attention, which naturally gave in to her curiosity, and she came upon a semi-interactive book, which she immediately said "Mom, we need to get this!" - and we did. As I skimmed through the book, I too was surprised at the amount of information in just 10 pages, and the "interactiveness" of the book was a bonus. What exactly did we stumble upon? A very fun and informative book about five different biomes and all the natural wonders that thrive in these environments.
Expandable Exploration Wild World is book three in the series - Expadable Exploration by Silver Dolphin published in August 2020. The book is hardcover and oversize for good reason, the pages are sturdy and expandable - meaning you gently pull out the pages to reveal additional pages providing about 20 pages of content.
The book covers the following five biomes and all the amazing animals, plants, insects, trees, and landforms :
Amazon Rainforest
Great Barrier Reef
Northern Forest
Arctic Landscape
African Savanna
The cover page under the "Amazon Rainforest" pull-out, provides a world map identifying where you can find these biomes and a very quick overview of each biome. For each biome, there is a quick overview explaining the location and what can be found there, from animals to types of forest. The first two pages create a scenery that is engaging and extremely informative. Younger readers may be drawn to the animals and the funny-looking eye, but older readers will be drawn to the uncommon facts of each of these biomes. The pages then extend out to reveal another scenery with additional information. At the bottom of each page, there is a Search and Find option with 6-7 different animals to spot.
What is so great about this book?
The fun facts! As an adult, I do know most of these but below are some facts that I learned by reading this book.
Examples of some of the facts I learned in this book:
Amazon Rainforest - "Sleepy sloths live in trees and move very slowly. Their fur turns green because plants grow on it!
Great Barrier Reef - " Baby fish are called fry. They can find plenty of hiding places in a reef's nooks and crannies.
Northern Forest - "Raccoons can live almost anywhere in the forest or meadow. They wash their food in the river before eating it!
Artic Landscape - "Most slugs and snails would freeze to death in the Arctic, but marsh slugs can live in the tundra!"
African Savanna - "When there is no rain, an African bullfrog stays in its burrow underground"
Expandable Explorations Wild World is a great addition to any library as it is both educational and entertaining.
