Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs

For most parents, there comes a time when you realize that you are learning as much as your child is, especially with dinosaurs. My husband and I weren’t into dinosaurs when we were kids, more like transformers and He-Man (1980’s children), so when our daughter became interested in dinosaurs, we had no clue except what we learned in Jurassic Park. Little did we know then how inaccurate Jurassic Park was and how exciting dinosaurs are. I am sure there is an official, academic, and psychological reason why we all love dinosaurs, but in my opinion, dinosaurs have much to offer to children of all ages and adults.

A great example is a book “Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs” by Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart, published by Candlewick Press in 2005. Recommend for children ages 5-9; this book is so unique that they should have marketed it for ages five and up, and it would make a great coffee table book! The book provides over 35 pop-up illustrations, fun facts about dinosaurs, and anecdotes about the history of paleontology. Mini books and smaller foldout sections cover dinosaurs and their characteristics, providing insights and details about dinosaurs and their histories.

What is so great about this book?

This book is inviting with all its foldouts and pop-up; from a sensory perspective, it entices the reader to open and explore the book further. I can see why this is one of my daughter’s favorite books because it has so much to offer – visuals, facts, illustrations, short stories, and the ability to make anyone curious about what the next page will show.
